BCG says, I love my new home at Melanie's Equine Rescue Center. I always have plenty of hay and feed but most of all I have all the love and attention I want. My new people love me and I know this by the way they take care of me, all horses should be as lucky as me!!
She was given to my daughter, Ashley. Ashley was working at a so called "horse rescue". The woman (Tricia Mines) that ran this "horse rescue" (TandKfarm) asked my daughter if she wanted BCG. Of course, she said yes. What teenage girl do you know that would turn down a free horse?
December 07, 2003, BCG was dropped off at our family farm by this woman (Tricia Mines). We were not prepared for a horse, my husband and I didn't even know the horse was coming to the farm. We raise sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, quail and cattle. I did not have a horse barn and my fencing was electric 14 gauge fence, not horse fence.
This woman (Tricia Mines) just dumped her out in the middle of the pasture with all my other animals. (I believe in at least a 30 day quarantine of any and all animals that comes onto my property. No matter where or who they come from)
When I got home from work, my daughter informed me that we now had a horse. I figured, okay, she'd worked for this woman (Tricia Mines/TANDKFARM) for free so fair trade. My daughter had been told by this woman (Tricia Mines) that BCG had been a trail horse, she may or may not be pregnant because her stallion (Sonny) had jumped the fence but the chances were slim because she didn't think that BCG could get pregnant (she thought she was baron). That she had to get rid of her because she was going to kill her stallion.
She had tried to get our neighbor to buy BCG for $400.00. Nobody wanted BCG because of her hoof. She was that so called unwanted, useless horse. When I talked to my neighbor, I was told that this woman (Tricia Mines) had actually gotten BCG for her because she wanted a horse for her children.
When I saw BCG from a distance, she was beautiful (what horse isn't). As I got closer to her however, my opinion changed, her front left hoof was mangled. The woman (Tricia Mines) told my daughter it was a barbed wire accident when she was 9 months of age. Half of BCG's hoof was hanging off, just dangling. BCG was very jumpy and would take flight when you lifted your arms in the air even if you were no where around her (within reach). She could hardly put her own weight on that front hoof, so you knew without a doubt there was no way she could have been a trail horse. My daughter was told by this woman (Tricia Mines) the BCG's hoof could not be fixed. My farrier is evidently the best in the world because he is getting her foot back to normal, even asked my farrier what he thought about the hoof, could she have been a trail horse, HE SAID NO!! No worries, I figured even though we would never be able to do anything with BCG, she could just live her life out at the farm. My daughter and I worked with her on a daily basis, trying to get her comfortable with people. Showing her that we would not harm her or allow anyone else to cause her harm. We promised her that no matter what we would protect her. As time progressed, I could tell BCG was in fact carrying. She surprised us on 9-11-2004 with a beautiful bay filly.
We were just getting everything together for a foaling stall and I had talked to two big horse owners in Greensville County to see if I could call on them if I needed any assistance when it came time for the foal to arrive. Of course both of them said I could call them if I needed them. (I know good people) I was very worried when I saw the filly -- for BCG was not due until November. I checked the filly and to my surprise she was not premature. She was fully developed -- hooves and all......
So BCG had been bred in October of 2003, not the possible December 2003 date. Now I had to find out who had BCG before this woman because I wanted to find out who had bred her and who the filly's father was.
Three days after the filly was born the woman (Tricia Mines) wanted to buy both the filly and BCG. She was told several times "NO SALE" , that neither BCG or the filly were up for sale nor would they ever be up for sale.
That's when the trouble started..... when we would not let this woman (Tricia Mines) purchase our horses.
When she couldn't purchase the horses, she tried to STEAL them. ( Now this is a woman that is supposed to be running a horse rescue, she has business cards that say the same. I actually have one in my possession) She called our county animal control (John) and told him she was a horse rescue and we were neglecting the horses, that they had no food and were starving and she needed him to come on the property with her to pick up the horses. John was smarter than that, he came out to the farm and looked at our guys (FOUND NO NEGLECT AND NO STARVING ANIMALS) ** You can see from the pictures how thin BCG is***
This woman (Tricia Mines) called John on several occasions stating abuse, neglect and starvation ---- every time John would come out and every time he found nothing wrong with the animals. When animal control would not take the filly and BCG from us and give them to her, she went another direction -- she called PETA again stating neglect, abuse and starvation. Yet again none of the above was found. When that didn't work is called the Humane Society, stating abuse, neglect, starvation, again they found nothing in her statements to be correct. Every Thursday, I was having a visit with John out at the farm like clockwork.
Her next step, I got a message on my machine from her ( I still have it by the way) If I would give her BCG she would give me the paper work on the filly and we could sale her for at least $2000.00. (Any registration papers this woman filled out would have been a fraud because the stud she was saying bred BCG was not the daddy)
The final straw. Knock on the door --- served with papers. The woman is taking us to court for almost $3,000.00 ( for BCG and the filly) We went straight to our lawyer. I mean really, how can you try and get money from somebody for something you gave away over a year ago because you can't sale it and you don't want it but when a foal comes into the picture all of a sudden you want it back cause you can now make money on it.
BCG is an IMPRESSIVE Quarter Horse.
We went to court asking for a bill of particulars. She threw a fit -- told the judge she wanted it settled today!!
This woman even threaten John's job if he didn't take BCG and her filly and give them to her (nice woman huh?) John said that he didn't know what to do. If a complaint comes in, animal control has to check it out, even if they know it's a bunch of bull. That's their job and if they don't check into the complaints it can be trouble for them. So we decided that if she wouldn't listen to him and leave us alone that we had to shift gears. We got the State Vet involved. He came down and evaluated the horses and every animal on the property (that was over 200 head), gave every animal a clean bill of health.
Case rescheduled for January 19, 2005. Judge told her to get a lawyer because the one we had was one of the best. I was sitting in the back row of the courtroom with Melinda Greene. When this woman (Tricia Mines) that is supposed to be a horse rescuer walked out of the court room she looked dead in my face and said "THAT HORSE IS DEAD" Melinda heard her as well as myself.
The court case has been rescheduled like five times. Our last date that we were supposed to go to court was in October, but surprise the woman dropped the case.
On top of all of this, BCG is HYPP positive. This woman knew that she was HYPP positive before we came into possession of her but never told us. She told us that BCG was a grade Quarter Horse and could not be registered, but she had given us the name Beacon Cinnamon Gal. I did some research, I'm an AQHA member. I found BCG and her registration information and the people that the AQHA had listed as her owners. I got their number and address and contacted them. We had a long interesting talk. The woman that we had gotten BCG from told the previous owners (Ray and Susan) that she wanted BCG to use as a training horse for the young kids that she worked with (NOT) The Ray and Susan are really good people, they brought BCG to this woman free of charge, she didn't have to pay for the mare or the delivery of the mare. (GOOD PEOPLE)
We are still in a fight over the paperwork of BCG. The Ray and Susan gave all the paperwork to this woman including the AQHA transfer of ownership papers and she will not turn any of the paperwork over to us, the legal owners.
It is people like this that give rescues a bad name. Not all rescues are out for the horses, some are out for their own personal gain. Through all this, I found Christy. Christy is part of AC4H out of PA, she is great. She helped inspired me to incorporate MERR-C along with my desire to push out the frauds and horse traders dressed as a horse rescue.
There are a lot of people out here that play on a persons desire to help the horses, while making themselves richer and not caring not one bit about the horses.
This woman (Tricia Mines) goes by several different names and farm names: TandKfarm, TNKfarm, T&Kfarm, T & K farm, Razzle Dazzle Arabians, Trish, Lynn, Trish M., Tricia Mines, Tricia, her moms name Katherine, Katherine and Trish, and now T & k farm LLC. ( I have checked with the State Corporation Commission and they are not registered) These are some of the names she uses when she is listing horses for sale on the internet.
